Name - Giving

In Germanic lore it is said that person-hood begins when a human being receives a name, thus naming is considered the first rite of passage.

Much like a Christian baptism or Jewish Bris, Heathenry has its own ceremony that celebrates and welcomes a newborn, whereby the child is presented and formally named before the gods, their ancestors, and their spiritual community.

Proud parents play a vital role in Name-Giving as sacred participants. Some have opted for clergy to preside over proceedings so as to experience this rite as sacred observers as well.
